Information is the basis of all communication. We use information in the process of categorizing our environment so that we may understand it.
Information serves us two purposes:
- Conveys our representations of reality.
- Communicates to someone or something
Information involves other aspects as well including:
- Semantics: content or meaning of the sign of a thing for an agent.
- Syntax: characteristics of signs and symbols devoid of meaning. (An example of a sign would be
smoking.) - Pragmatics: context of signs and repercussions of sign-systems in an environment.
Information technology has progressed so far that we now live in the Information Age. Almost every career field involves information technology in one way or another.
A great site that showcases modern information technology is Infoport

Also, notice the point emphasized by Prof.Rocha in class that Information is a relation which informs an agent about a thing.
